On top of that u get a few more applications: – Mainstage which can be bought also in the app store – Soundtrack pro, which seems now discontinued – Waveburner, here i am not sure, it’s not in the app store – as far as I know – so maybe also discontinued. It’s kinda sad cause theres is replacement for Soundtrack or Waveburner so far.

Can-o-worms question for sure Music-Industry mandatory software? Maybe in some circles. What are you trying to do, record a band or create music? Logic Pro 9 is included in Logic Studio Get Logic Pro 9. Learn more. Is logic pro x better than logic pro 9? Another nooby question. On youtube all the producers seem to be using Logic 9 all the time and their are very few LPX videos.

Is LPX slower production-wise or something? Is there a new learning curve? Is apple dumbing it down to cater for the noobies? L9 has been out for years, X is fairly new.

It’s reasonable to see a ton more videos for 9. This book has it all, from a technical standpoint. If you are new to Logic, it is an absolute must. And the fundamentals are vast. Over pages including a ton of information on MIDI recording, editing, programming, and hardware configuration.

Looking back, however, this is an absolute no brainer. A drop in the bucket compared to the immediate and overwhelming value of content made available here. Also, just a word to my fellow newbie, it turns out that the help tutorials in Logic are also VERY helpful. Probably not as helpful as this book, but definitely a great source for high level context. For instance, all I knew was that Logic was very robust and could likely “do it all,” but was confused as to what that really meant. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos where guys are using synthesizers, bass synthesizers, MIDI sequencers, drum machines and more to create amazing music.

Turns out, Logic contains its own digital version of each of the aforementioned components and more. But I wouldn’t have really known that without reading through the Help content in Logic. And I’ve only really scratched the surface. Yet, I was able to immediately surmise what I wanted to know about all the hardware components – and their digital manifestations in Logic – as well as some really awesome additional topics like History of the Synthesizer, and The Nature of Sound, etc.

So, to recap, buy this book. But also, don’t forget the inherent documentation in the software itself. Really worthwhile, both. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Having a great passion for music, I played guitar when i was young but this faded away when football, girls and other distractions came in i did continue to DJ but this again faded.

I wish I had sustained it as would better understand writing and reading music. Now 29 years of age with a good career I could afford to buy myself a MacBook Pro, logic 9 and a midi keyboard as audio production is something I always wanted to do even if just as a hobby as my musical interest never fades I have picked up my guitar again.

I bought logic and played around with it for a week but knew there were far more to its capabilities and owed it to myself and logic to learn a good foundation of the functions. I am shrewd when it comes to buying things and spent 4 months before I decided on buying a Pioneer plasma TV once to give you some indication. In my search i came across this book and even found a thread on a forum in which the author David Nahmani provided helpful advice. From the responses of those in the thread and these reviews and i decided to purchase.

I am just through the first chapter and aside from learning things to improve my workflow, I have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons. The button to adjust the waveform scale has been moved up to the upper right of the Main Window and is far more discoverable. It’s just to the left of the vertical and horizontal zoom display. When audio is selected, there are now two editor tabs: one for the new Track Editor for track-based editing of multiple regions, and one for the File Editor, which is basically the old Sample Editor.

Here’s one Audio Preference to look out for which is enabled if Logic Pro X is a fresh install on a Mac without a previous version of Logic. With ‘Input monitoring only for focused track, and record-enabled tracks’ enabled, only the selected focused track will be monitored.

It’s a GarageBand behaviour feature which is useful when, for example, you are recording a drum kit and guitar and only want to hear the guitar. While these changes can seem disorientating to existing users, for the most part you should find Logic ergonomically redesigned and more conducive to an efficient, creative workflow. Fl Studio currently does not have this feature. If you record 5 takes for an audio performance, FL Studio will store them on 5 separate tracks which can get tiresome! Recording audio in FL Studio is definitely not as straight-forward, and in my opinion Image-line could make this a lot more intuitive and streamlined.

Within Logic, you would usually create, edit and structure a track all within the main Logic track window. With FL Studio, it works slightly differently. But in order to mix you are going to need plugins! Both DAWs come with a big selection of standard plugins. Pro Tools , depending on which bundle you buy, will come with an array of 3rd party plugins for you to use, including amp simulators, compressors, reverbs, and EQs.

Logic, on the other hand, comes with a similar array of standard plugins which are all exclusive to Logic users ie they are only usable within the Logic DAW.

The other huge bonus of mixing within Logic is the large number of soft synths and the free-to-use Apple loop library. The price can quickly spiral into the thousands depending on the specs you want, although there are refurbished options on the market for cheaper prices.

So in case you were wondering, there is no PC version available for Logic Pro. Pro Tools , on the other hand, is compatible with both PC and Mac.

So you can probably save a few hundred dollars by going down the Avid route even if you need to buy a new machine. An obvious downside, however, is cost — you still need to buy an Apple product! If we look at it that way then Pro Tools just wins this round as you have the option for both!

A copout answer, but ultimately, your individual needs are going to determine which one is best for you. For me, Logic has become my go-to DAW for the fact that it makes life simpler and easier when it comes to mixing and creating music. It feels more intuitive, and the standard plugins are great for creating a pro-sounding mix. Whilst there are certainly advantages to using Pro Tools , ultimately when beginning a session, Logic has become my go-to software for these reasons.

My workflow is more streamlined and so is my productivity and most importantly Logic just feels more enjoyable! Logic and Pro Tools can do many similar things, and you may prefer the way PT works for a particular task. Ready to get recording? Interviews See All.
